- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 February 2011I find all Andrew Wright's books on EAL teaching inspirational and instantly applicable to teaching so thought this book would prove another practical aid. I am looking for a solution to the frequent problem that arises when trying to communicate a grammar point to non-English speakers with a wobbly grasp of the concept of grammar! I hoped it would provide instant photocopiable visuals. It is exactly what it claims to be. A book that teaches you how to draw and create your own visuals. Some of the drawings are packed with detail and compliment many teaching activities suggested by Penny Ur and Andrew Wright, but do not lend themselves to the rapid sketching often resorted to when trying to communicate in the classroom. I have owned it for over 2 months and not really used it yet, despite the occasional search.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 September 2020I’ve had this book for years and it’s been brilliant at showing a non-arty teacher how to simply and quickly draw understandable pictures on the board.
Also, the pages of writing prompt pictures are the best thing ever for emergency cover lessons.
An absolute winner for classroom teachers!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 June 20091,000 Pictures for Teachers to copy: I found this in Denmark when researching their teaching methodology in modern languages there in 1986 and have used it virtually every day since. I wish I'd discovered it earlier in my teaching career I suspect it was one of the best kept secrets of TEFL teachers. It has made modern language teaching without translating into the native language a realistic option instead of having to rely on mime alone. You can create your own flashcards from the instantly recognisable cartoons quickly and easily. My pupils love the simplicity of the drawings too. I have also used it to teach young children to draw. It's an invaluable aid for playing Pictionary too!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 September 2009This book is a fantastic resource for teachers, with lots of ideas about how to involve your students in realistic role play, along with all the materials needed to plan lessons easily.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 July 2005Whether you want to produce flashcards or some other material, or just add variety to your lessons (or explain a grammar or vocabulary point) with a quick blackboard drawing, Andrew Wright's book is truly excellent.
'But I CAN'T draw,' teachers always say when I recommend it. You don't need to be able to DRAW, the book says: you need to be able to COPY, which is much, much easier -- anyone can do it.
And when you're confident that you can copy, you can then start to draw, too...
Teaching and learning should be fun -- drawing makes it fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Catálogo de imágenes en blanco y negro

4.0 out of 5 stars Bon outil d'apprentissage
Bien pratique. Je recommande l'article.

4.0 out of 5 stars nützliche Kopiervorlagen

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
This book is very disappointing. It is not what I was looking for. It is only simple cartoon or stick figures.
