The sixth seminar in Nellie's Seminar Series 2003 will feature three presentations as follows:

  1. 13:00 - 13:50, Halloween "kamishibai" storytelling
    Presenter: Mayuka Habbick.
    Target: Teachers of learners of all ages.
    Language: English/Japanese.
    Content: "Kamishibai" (using storyboards) is a great tool for storytelling and this presentation will show you why! Students can learn all about Halloween through the exciting adventures of Stellar the Witch. Picture cards, songs and chants, and students’ coloring books help you plan a total curriculum.
  2. 14:20 - 15:10, Phonics Activities for Fun
    Presenter: Miyuki Kasuya.
    Target: Teachers of elementary and junior high school students.
    Language: Japanese/English.
    Content: This seminar will provide ideas for teachers who need basic and original activities for the classroom. The presenter will introduce a selection of fun, effective phonics activities from the new title "Phonics Activities for Fun." Also featuring "Active Phonics" and a variety of picture, word and rule phonics cards.
  3. 15:40 - 16:30 How to motivate junior high students through Q/A activities
    Presenter: Miyuki Kasuya.
    Target: Teachers of junior high school students.
    Language: Japanese/English.
    Content: Question/answer practice is the basic starting point for learning how to communicate in English. However, communication is much more than just asking and answering questions. Teaching useful comments and phrases also helps students’ dialogues sound more natural. Featuring the "QA-100 Communication Workbook."
