Sendai JALT:

The Pleasures of Poetry - New Australian Voices

Date: Sunday, January 28th, 2001 Time: 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM

Speaker: David Gilbey, visiting professor at Miyagi Gakuin Women's College

Description:
How long since you treated yourself to an afternoon of poetry? David Gilbey, whose collection of poems Under the Rainbow was published in 1996 while he was here in Sendai for a year, and who includes poetry in his current Australian Studies course at Miyagi Gakuin Women's College, will present a reading, with commentary, of recent Australian poetry from some of the best contemporary Australian writing published. Kate Llewellyn, Kevin Hart, John Millett, Philip Norton - maybe the names are not familiar to you - but the styles and foci vary so there should be something for everyone (eg. sexual politics, documenting history, new spiritualities, urban vernacular, maybe the absence of kangaroos....). Copies of the poems will be provided as small (antipodean?) windows onto world English.

Non-members: 1000 yen (for non-JALT and non-TALE members)
