Speaker: Barry Eisler
Description:
(Please note, FEW monthly meetings are women-only events.)
Ever daydreamed about a career as a writer? Ever wondered how you could turn your experiences in Japan into a publishable work of literature? Curious about the process of writing? Renowned author Barry Eisler (Rain Fall)will address these questions. As he leads us through the writing process, Barry's presentation will cover the following topics:
- Quick introduction: Who is John Rain, and what are the Rain books?
- Where did Rain come from (serendipity, and how to find it)?
- Using what you know (the easy part)
- Finding out what you don't know (the fun part)
- Creating fiction against a nonfiction setting (is Rain real?)
- What not to do if you're writing about Japan (Japan is just like the West / Japan is totally different)
- What's so special about Tokyo, anyway?
