Saitama JALT:
Self-Evaluation as a Tool for Learner Development
Date: Sunday, July 11th, 2004 Time: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Speaker: Mary Christianson and Heidi Evans Nachi
Description:
Whether your classroom style is more teacher-fronted or more learner-centered, you can easily make room in your lessons for students to engage in critical self-reflection. Whether your students are highly motivated or less invested in their learning, self-evaluation can be a tool for promoting critical thinking and learner autonomy, or simply a way to effectively communicate your expectations in the classroom. In this workshop, the presenters will discuss the benefits and limitations of reflective self-evaluation and demonstrate several practical techniques for using self-evaluation in a variety of language classroom contexts.
