Autumn Course: Getting your students to speak

Date: Friday, October 8th, 2004 Time: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Speaker: British Council Teacher Trainers

Description:
British Council Tokyo is pleased to announce the dates for the Autumn set of courses for teachers of English in the Junior and Senior High Schools. These will follow the same format of five evening seminars, held fortnightly during the Autumn Term. They are designed to assist teachers in their day to day teaching and provide practical ideas for adopting Communicative Methodology to the Japanese Junior and Senior High school classrooms. Teachers attending all the sessions receive a British Council Certificate at the end of the course.

This course will give advice on how to set up and run a variety of controlled speaking activities and freer speaking activities, where the learner has greater freedom to use all the language he/she has. Participants will discuss oral correction techniques. The advantages and disadvantages of these options will be explored, and practice will be given in how to give correction.

The course will also give guidelines on how to teach pronunciation generally, as well as specific ideas for particular areas - i.e. intonation, sounds and stress and will present a number of ideas and techniques for effective, fun and meaningful drilling.
