Matsuyama JALT:
Creating Learning Communities Through Reading and Portfolio Assessment
Date: Sunday, June 12th, 2005 Time: 2:15 PM - 4:20 PM
Speaker: Barry Mateer, Tamagawa University
Description:
A working definition of reading must include a problem-solving process. Such an approach can be initiated by each student writing one question which comes to mind while reading. By students sharing their posed problem with a partner and seeking a solution and through teacher-fronted classroom interaction, language awareness and critical thinking can be focused on and a learning community can be created.
