Kitakyushu JALT:
Shuffling Strategies
Date: Saturday, September 14th, 2002 Time: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Speaker: Joy Jarman-Walsh
Description:
Unsuccessful communication classes can often be blamed on two obvious problems; students do not talk with each other in English or coorperate in doing a task. Jarman-Walsh found that the key for her classes was to make groups more effective by observing behavior and re-shuffling groups. In this presentation, she explains how she:
- observed the students,
- designated them by behavior types,
- created new groups based on an idea of a "balanced" group and finally
- observed them again to see if the groups had improved.
