Teaching Children How to Read English

Speaker: Joe Lauer (Hiroshima University), Adam Beck (Hiroshima Starship), Mari Tsuruda (Hiroshima YMCA), and Junko Noborizato (Noborizato's Juku)
Description:
Teaching children how to read English is a great challenge, indeed. This special meeting will feature four speakers:
- Joe Lauer will summarize bilingualism research findings with respect to teaching native English speaking children how to read English while they attend Japanese schools.
- Adam Beck will explain his experiences teaching English to children at Hiroshima International School, as well as the publication he recently edited, called "The ABCs of Bilingualism."
- Marie Tsuruda will talk about the benefits of story telling and how to teach reading to non-native speakers.
- Junko Noborizato will explain how she teaches English reading to Japanese junior and senior high school students.
