Nagasaki JALT:

Experiences with Action Research: Seeking Effective Ways to Do Japanese Writing and English Grammar Lessons

Date: Saturday, June 30th, 2007 Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Speaker: Howard Doyle, Kochi University; and Fumiko Ishinuki, Sasebo National College of Technology

Description:
Doyle's presentation presents the inspiration and dynamic of an action research project focusing on evolution of a holistic approach to doing grammar in the language classroom, and will be related to syllabus and materials development and other issues. Part of the presentation takes on a workshop form, so participants can be drawn into an holistic approach to doing grammar. In the other session, Ishinuki's presentation presents the study outcome conducted in the Year 8 class at the Sydney Saturday School of Japanese in 2005. This study took the form of action research and investigated strengths and weaknesses of a genre-based approach to dokushokansobun (literally, post-reading reflective essays) for improvement of students' writing through the teaching-learning cycle. All welcome to Nagasaki JALT's fifth meeting of the year!
